mildew smell poor soundproofing

I was a little disappointed by a few things. the bathroom had a persistent smell of mildew (i even bought an air freshener, but it barely helped). also, the soundproofing wasn't great. I could hear noise from the hallway quite easily. it sometimes woke me up.
